How Do I Update My ShowBox's Firmware?

Overview

This article explains how to update the ShowBox firmware to the latest version.

New ShowBox firmware, release notes, and these installation instructions can be found on the ShowBox Downloads page.

System Requirements

• Windows: Windows 10 or higher

• macOS: macOS 10.12 or higher

Supported Devices

• ShowBox

Firmware Update Instructions (macOS)

Step 1: Connect the ShowBox

• Connect the USB-C side of the cable to the USB-C port on the ShowBox

• Connect the USB-A side of the cable to your computer

Step 2: Download the Firmware

• Download the latest ShowBox firmware to your Desktop from the Mackie website

Step 3: Install the Updater

1. Double-click ShowBoxUpdater_v1.1.x_Mac.zip

2. Double-click ShowBoxUpdater_v1.1.x.dmg

3. Click and drag ShowBoxUpdater into Applications

4. Open Finder → Applications, then double-click ShowBoxUpdater

5. When prompted, click Open

Step 4: macOS Permissions

• Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring

• Ensure ShowBoxUpdater appears and the toggle is enabled (on)

Step 5: Update the ShowBox Base

1. Press and hold the updater button using a bent paperclip

   • The updater button is located between the USB-C port and the remote jack

2. While holding the updater button:

   • Power on the ShowBox

   • Click Update Base in the updater software

⚠️ Important:
Do not press buttons, turn knobs, or power off the ShowBox during the update.

Step 6: Update the ShowBox Remote

1. Once the Base update completes and “Great Success!” appears:

2. Power off the ShowBox

3. Press and hold the main volume knob

4. While holding the knob:

   • Power on the ShowBox

   • Continue holding the knob for 5 seconds

   • Click Update Remote

⚠️ Do not interrupt power or controls during this process.

Step 7: Finish

• When “Now do something creative!” appears:

  • Click End Program

• Power-cycle the ShowBox to complete the firmware update

Firmware Update Instructions (Windows)

Step 1: Connect the ShowBox

• Connect the USB-C side of the cable to the ShowBox

• Connect the USB-A side of the cable to your computer

Step 2: Download the Firmware

• Download the latest ShowBox firmware to your Desktop from the Mackie website

Step 3: Install the Updater

1. Double-click the ShowBoxUpdater Windows installer

2. When prompted, click More info

3. Click Run anyway

4. Follow the on-screen prompts:

   • Next → Next → Next → Install

Step 4: Complete Installation

1. Click Install

2. Wait for installation to complete

3. Ensure Launch Mackie ShowBox Updater is selected

4. Click Finish

Step 5: Update the ShowBox Base

1. Press and hold the updater button using a bent paperclip

   • Located between the USB-C port and the remote jack

2. While holding the updater button:

   • Power on the ShowBox

   • Click Update Base

⚠️ Do not power off or adjust controls during the update.

Step 6: Update the ShowBox Remote

1. After “Great Success!” appears:

2. Power off the ShowBox

3. Press and hold the main volume knob

4. Power on the ShowBox while continuing to hold the knob for 5 seconds

5. Click Update Remote

Step 7: Finish

• When “Now do something creative!” appears:

  • Click End Program

• Power-cycle the ShowBox to complete the firmware update

Important Notes

• Do not disconnect power during firmware updates

• Do not press buttons or turn knobs while updates are in progress

• Firmware updates take effect after power cycling the ShowBox
